The University of Chicago Leads at the MCSA Fall Champs!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago, IL – 11/6/22 - The MCSA 2022 Fall Championship occurred at Columbia Yacht Club the weekend of November 5-6, 2022. Racing was abandoned on Day 1 (Saturday) due to sustained winds well above typical collegiate sailing limits, gusts above 50 knots were reported and sustained winds were regularly seen around 40 knots throughout the day. 15 teams showed up for racing on Sunday, they were greeted with great sunny weather, temperatures hovering in 60s (F). Wind speeds started out higher earlier in the day around 12 knots sustained, with higher gusts. The wind kept trying to go west throughout the day but never fully did; teams reported puffy and variable conditions throughout the day, and later races saw lower wind speeds.

Purdue, the University of Chicago, Northwestern, and Michigan State were fighting for the top 3, particularly in races 4 through 6. The hometown team ended in first with 50 points, congratulations to the Chicago Maroons who are this year’s Fall Championship and will be awarded the MCSA Graduate Officers’ Trophy at Midwinters in January. This is the first time that the University of Chicago has received this award since its inception in 1947. Purdue ended in second place with 51 points, a well-fought battle, and Michigan State in third at 59 points.
