NEISA Regatta Report Weekend 8

Newport, RI,  – On May 1-2 The University of Rhode Island hosted the first ever open Coed and Women’s Singlehanded National Championship out of Sail Newport.  NEISA was well represented in both fleets.  The top NEISA finisher in the Women’s fleet was Elizabeth Shannahan ’23 from Boston College.  Elizabeth had a stellar second day never finishing outside the top 6 to lift her up to sixth place overall.  Not far behind were fellow NEISA sailors; Annika Fedde ’23 from Tufts in seventh and fellow Jumbo Alexandra Talbot ’22 in eighth.

The Men’s fleet also saw a huge leap in the results from US Coast Guard Academy Cadets Richie Gordon ’21 and Gage Schoenherr ’21.  Both sailors were mired mid fleet in the 41 boat fleet after Saturdays racing but showed great resilience to end up fourth and fifth respectively in the championship.

Congratualations to our new Women’s Champion Charlotte Rose ’22 of Jacksonville University and Men’s Champion Thomas McCann ’22 from Georgetown University.  Scores can be found here: https://scores.collegesailing.org/s21/
