As the fall regular season winds down, teams across the country are gearing up for the College Sailing Match Race National Championship and the Open and Women’s Singlehanded National Championships.
College Sailing is returning to Lake Pontchartrain. Tulane University is hosting the 2023 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships for the Glen S. Foster Trophy (open) and the Janet Lutz Trophy (women’s). Racing starts on Saturday, November 11 and continues Sunday, November 12.

In the women’s championship ten athletes will be returning from the 2022 Nationals, six of which finished in the top ten last year. The six returning include: Dartmouth’s Sarah Young '25, Brown’s Katharine Doble '26, Cornell’s Lucija Ruzevic '24, Cornell’s Lauren Ehnot '24, and Brown’s Kaitlyn Hamilton '26. Additionally, Jacksonville’s Agija Elerte '26, Jacksonville’s Emily Allen '25, Wisconsin’s Claire Considine '23, and St. Mary’s Madison Bashaw '24 will be back competing.
The class of 2027 is making their debut on the national stage with seven representatives: Tulane’s Ava Anderson, University of Washington’s Sammy Farkas, Tulane’s Oakley Cunningham, Old Dominion’s Gianna Dewey, Brown University’s Sidney Moyer, University of Washington Hailey Thompson, and Navy’s Kate Zurinskas.

This year's open fleet is highly competitive with twelve of the eighteen sailors returning from the 2022 Open Singlehanded Nationals. Six of the twelve returners, including Connor Nelson '24 (Brown), Nicholas Reeser '25 (Coast Guard), Thad Lettsome '24 (Tulane), Mathieu Dale '25 (Roger Williams), Nicholas Sessions '24 (Hobart & William Smith), and Benjamin Smith '26 (Georgetown) finished in the top ten at last year’s championship. Five freshmen sailors, Hamilton Barclay (Tulane), Peter Barnard (Georgetown), Robby Meek (Harvard), Mathias Reimer (Yale), Ben Sheppard (Dartmouth), will make their debut at the Nationals this year adding further depth to the field.
