2023 Singlehanded Open and Women’s National Championship Wrap Up

Challenging Conditions and Close Competition Marked a Thrilling Weekend of Racing

After two days of close competition in a tight fleet Ava Anderson, ‘27 of Tulane University and Nicholas Reeser ‘25 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy are the 2023  Women’s and Open Singlehanded National Champions.

Athletes in both regattas were greeted Saturday on Lake Pontchartrain with overcast skies, 6-9 knots of breeze from the Northeast and a steady chop that had built overnight. The skill levels of the Women’s and Open fleets were readily apparent to coaches and spectators in the close results. 

Brown Bears Capture Match Race National Championship in Charleston

10 college sailing teams from across the country arrived Friday to Charleston, SC for the 2023 College Sailing Match Race National Championship. The Brown University Bears sailed strongly throughout the entire weekend to take home the Cornelius Shields Sr. Trophy! 

Excellent conditions for match racing on Friday allowed for the entire first stage’s Round Robin to be completed. Conditions were 6-12 knots out of the North Northeast. The defending Champions, Yale University, were perfect after day one with a record of 9-0 trying to become the first team in the history of the event to win three years in a row. The top six teams earned a berth in the Gold Round Robin to determine seeding while the bottom four teams moved to the Repechage to fight for the last two berths in the Quarterfinals.

2023 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships

As the fall regular season winds down, teams across the country are gearing up for the College Sailing Match Race National Championship and the Open and Women’s Singlehanded National Championships. 

College Sailing is returning to Lake Pontchartrain. Tulane University is hosting the 2023 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships for the Glen S. Foster Trophy (open) and the Janet Lutz Trophy (women’s). Racing starts on Saturday, November 11 and continues Sunday, November 12. 

2023 College Sailing Match Race National Championships

As the fall regular season winds down, teams across the country are gearing up for the College Sailing Match Race National Championship and the Open and Women’s Singlehanded National Championships. 

The College Sailing Match Race National Championship for the Cornelius Shields Sr. Trophy will be hosted by the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina November 3-5. Charleston last hosted the Match Race Nationals in 2017. Racing is slated for Friday through Sunday with a time limit of 4:30 pm (ET) on Sunday. The race course will be next to the USS Yorktown with views of the iconic Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.


In one of four biannual trophy matches between British University and ICSA All-Stars, BUSA claims the 2015 BA trophy 3 - 2. Piers Park Sailing Center in East Boston hosted the teams in four fairly evenly matched Sonars.



CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (July 17, 2015) – The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has named its 2014-15 All-Academic Sailing Team. The All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes collegiate sailors who have achieved excellence in national and inter-conference competition as well as excelling at the highest academic level for the 2014-15 academic year. The All-Academic Sailing Team was inaugurated in 2006 and this year there is new criteria resulting in a longer list of honorees than there has been in previous years.



NEWPORT, R.I. (June 23, 2015) – In an online awards show this evening, produced by Gary Jobson and Mitch Brindley with video footage from Gary Jobson and Chris Love Productions and still photography from Rob Migliaccio, the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) announced the 2014-15 All-American Team for the second time in this format. Fifty-three sailors were awarded this great honor. The names of the winners will be added to the ICSA Hall of Fame display located in the Robert Crown Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.



The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association has honored outstanding performance each year since 1967. The categories include All Americans, Women's All American, Honorable Mentions and Crew All American honorees. The list of sailors over the years reads like a who's who of sailing.
